FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale United FC’s USL League Two men’s team earned a dominant 2-0 victory over Weston FC on Wednesday evening in its home opener at Beyond Bancard Field. Goals from Carlos Zambrano and Ethan Subachan secured all three points in the club’s rivalry clash, keeping FTL UTD perfect through two matches to start the 2024 campaign. With two wins from two, Fort Lauderdale United now turns its focus to a quick turnaround on Friday night, when the club welcomes Kings Hammer Sun City to Beyond Bancard Field.
FTL UTD jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the early stages of the match after forward Alessandro Salvadego broke free behind the Weston defense. The forward was clear on goal, but made the unselfish pass across the box to Zambrano, who fired the ball into the back of the net. Filled with passion, Zambrano celebrated with a backflip in front of the home crowd after giving the club an early advantage in the 12th minute. Courtesy of Zambrano’s early goal, Fort Lauderdale took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
The advantage was doubled in the 62nd minute thanks to an incredible long-ball pass from team captain Mathys Lefebvre, who delivered a pinpoint pass to the feet of Subachan. The South Florida native controlled the pass between two Weston defenders, took a touch, and used his left foot to put the ball past the keeper to put the game out of reach. Fort Lauderdale’s defense remained composed in the final half hour, preserving the clean sheet and helping the club secure a commanding 2-0 victory over Weston FC.
