FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale United FC (9-6-6, 33 PTS) hits the road this Saturday to take on Dallas Trinity FC (10-6-6, 36 PTS) in a high-stakes battle between USL Super League playoff contenders. The two teams have split their pair of meetings this season, each protecting home turf. With both sides vying for postseason spots, Saturday’s 5:00 p.m. kickoff at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas promises a hard-fought, high-stakes showdown.
Fort Lauderdale United FC has been in excellent form over its last 10 matches (6W, 3D, 1L), collecting 21 points in that stretch. The team’s attack is powered by a ferocious quartet featuring Super League joint-leading scorer Addie McCain (9 goals, 2 assists), two-time Player of the Month Jasmine Hamid (8G, 2A), the tenacious Kiara Locklear (3G, 4A), and reigning Team of the Month selection Sh’Nia Gordon (3G, 2A). Scoring the 4th most goals in the Super League (27), the FTL UTD attack is one of, if not, the most dangerous in the league.
The recent inclusion of midfielder Felicia Knox into the lineup has given the already-dominant midfield of Darya Rajaee and Taylor Smith a refreshed identity, focused on possession and creative play through the middle of the pitch. Defensively, Laurel Ansbrow and Cosette Morché – a pair of March Team of the Month selections – headline a defensive unit that has conceded the 2nd-least goals in the league (21).
Second-seeded Dallas Trinity FC is coming off a stunning 3-0 loss to Spokane Zephyr FC on the road last weekend. Despite the stumble, Dallas boasts the league’s second-highest goal tally (34), and is led by the creative force of Chioma Ubogagu – who leads the league in crosses (118) and is tied for first in assists (5). Forward Allie Thornton shares the Golden Boot lead with McCain, scoring 9 goals so far this season. On the defensive side, the club is led by goalkeeper Madison White, the Super League’s leader in clean sheets (9), who also ranks second in saves (52).
Matchup History
The clubs first clashed on November 2 at the Cotton Bowl, with the match seemingly destined for a draw – until an 87th-minute strike from Dallas sealed a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat for Fort Lauderdale.
Their second encounter came on December 1 at Beyond Bancard Field, where Fort Lauderdale struck back. Hamid netted the fastest goal in league history (since surpassed), and McCain added another in a thrilling 2-1 victory for the FTL UTD side.
