FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Through its first five matches in club history, Fort Lauderdale United FC’s USL League Two men’s team has been on a remarkable run of form. Just shy of the halfway point in its inaugural season, the club stands alone as the only unbeaten team in USL2, having outscored its opponents 10-0 across 450 minutes of play. Fort Lauderdale United currently ranks fifth in the league in goals scored (10) and is tied for first in goals conceded (0), shutting out all five opponents it has seen so far.
Individually, midfielder Carlos Zambrano has emerged as one of the league’s most dynamic talents, finding the back of the net in all five matches. Zambrano’s five goals place him third among all USL2 scorers up to this point. In the midfield, Mathys Lefebvre has played a key role in controlling tempo and linking play, providing balance to Fort Lauderdale’s attack and defense. On the back line, the center back duo of Tibo Gobet and Idrissa Mane, along with outside back Ivan Arenas, have been instrumental in maintaining the club’s flawless defensive record, a collective effort that has yet to allow a single goal this season. In goal, Nigel Van Haveren has been equally impressive. He is tied for eighth in the league with eight saves and has recorded a clean sheet in every appearance, and he is the only goalkeeper in USL2 with at least eight saves and a flawless goals-against record.
Fort Lauderdale United FC looks to carry its red-hot form into Wednesday evening’s showdown with Sarasota Paradise at AutoNation Field at Fort Lauderdale United Training Facility — the club’s penultimate home match of the season. It’s a marquee matchup between the top two teams in the USL League Two South Florida Division and a key test in Fort Lauderdale’s pursuit of a perfect start. As the club chases its sixth consecutive victory, Wednesday’s clash promises to be one of the most compelling fixtures of the campaign.
