FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 23, 2026) – Fort Lauderdale United FC is thrilled to announce that it will host the 2024 NWSL Champions, Orlando Pride, on March 7 in the Sunshine Showdown at Beyond Bancard Field, marking another historic meeting between the Gainbridge Super League and the NWSL. Both leagues, considered first-division professional organizations, represent the highest level of women’s soccer in the United States.

“Hosting Orlando Pride for the Sunshine Showdown is another landmark moment for Fort Lauderdale United FC and the Gainbridge Super League,” said Tommy Smith, Chairman and Founder of Fort Lauderdale United FC. “Matches like this showcase the very best of women’s soccer, provide a platform for our players to test themselves against elite competition, and bring our fans closer to the game at the highest level. We’re proud to continue building historic moments like this in South Florida.”

Fort Lauderdale United became the first Gainbridge Super League club to face an NWSL team when it hosted Gotham FC on February 26, 2025, in a landmark match at Beyond Bancard Field. The upcoming clash with Orlando Pride will mark the eighth inter-league friendly overall and Orlando’s first-ever official meeting with a Gainbridge Super League club.

“Any chance that we get to compete against high-level competition is great for the players,” said Interim Head Coach Paul Jennison. “It’s obviously great exposure for our club in the national platform, and it keeps getting our name and players out there with the progress that we’re making. This matchup also brings the soccer community together, and it gives South Florida another reason to rally behind us.”

Orlando Pride will travel south for their final preseason game ahead of the 2026 NWSL season, which opens on March 15, just over a week after the match. The club is filled with marquee names from top to bottom and is led by all-time great and Brazilian legend Marta, along with star Zambian forward Barbra Banda, English goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse and Mexican forward Jacquie Ovalle. Orlando dominated the 2024 campaign, going 23 consecutive games unbeaten and captured the club’s first major trophies, the NWSL Shield and NWSL Championship, becoming just the third team in league history to complete the double.

New loan acquisition and goalkeeper McKinley Crone joined Fort Lauderdale United from Orlando ahead of the Spring portion of the season, giving her the unique opportunity to play against her parent club. Meanwhile, current Orlando goalkeeper Cosette Morché is a familiar face that spent the 2024-25 Super League season as Fort Lauderdale’s starting keeper.

With no league matches scheduled from February 22 to March 14, Fort Lauderdale United will enter the matchup well-rested, ready to showcase its dominant attacking group of Kiara Locklear, Jasmine Hamid, Kelli Van Treeck, Sh’nia Gordon and Sophie Harding. The game will provide a valuable test for the club ahead of five consecutive weeks of action as the Playoff Push intensifies.

TAMPA BAY, Fla. (February 21, 2026) – Fort Lauderdale United FC (4-7-7, 19 PTS) dropped its matchup with Tampa Bay Sun FC (2-6-9, 15 PTS) on Saturday evening, 3-0, in a hard-fought Florida Derby battle on the road. With the result, Fort Lauderdale has dropped four of its last five matches but will now have three weeks to regroup and recover before returning home to host top-seeded Sporting JAX in an all-important fixture.

Fort Lauderdale United returns to the pitch on Saturday, March 14, for a home matchup against Sporting JAX at Beyond Bancard Field. The clubs met twice during the first half of the campaign, with Fort Lauderdale traveling north for both contests. Sporting JAX claimed the first meeting (Nov. 22) before the sides played to a 1-1 draw (Dec. 13), with Kelli Van Treeck finding the back of the net for Fort Lauderdale. With just four points separating Fort Lauderdale from playoff position, the March 14 showdown carries significant postseason implications and promises to be one to watch.

Fort Lauderdale opened the match on the front foot, attacking with intensity and finding early success down the left side. Abi Hugh, Julia Grosso and Kelli Van Treeck each made dangerous runs in the seventh, eighth and 10th minutes, respectively, putting pressure on Tampa’s back line. Tampa took an early lead after a near-post shot found the back of the net in the 12th minute. Van Treeck was active in the midfield early on, nearly equalizing with a rocketing bottom left corner shot that was saved in the 21st minute. After a brilliant move, Sophie Harding got behind the Tampa defense in the 28th minute and made an unselfish pass to set up Kiara Locklear on the right side, but her powerful shot just missed the mark.Fort Lauderdale continued to push for an equalizer late in the half, with Jasmine Hamid (37’) and Hugh (39’) each putting shots on frame, but neither were unable to find the back of the net as Fort Lauderdale went into the halftime break trailing 1-0.

In his second match in charge, Interim Head Coach Paul Jennison made an adjustment at the break, introducing midfielder Kat Gonzalez for Taylor Smith. Harding continued to be a difference-maker in the attacking third and nearly sparked an equalizer in the 50th minute. The Australian forward whipped in a dangerous cross from the right that deflected off the crossbar and nearly connected with the head of Kiara Locklear, just narrowly missing. Just one minute later, goalkeeper McKinley Crone produced a tremendous near-post save to keep Fort Lauderdale within striking distance in her fourth appearance with the club. In the 57th minute, defender Laveni Vaka conceded a penalty kick and Tampa would convert from the spot, extending the deficit to two with just over 30 minutes remaining. Fort Lauderdale responded almost immediately, with Harding setting up Locklear in a one-on-one situation with the Tampa keeper, but her point-blank effort was denied by the Tampa keeper.

Jennison made another change in the 77th minute, bringing on Daniela Todd for Harding as the club searched for a breakthrough. Tampa added a third goal in the 83rd minute, though Todd continued to apply pressure in the closing stages and fought until the final whistle. Kate Colvin and Lilly McCarthy entered in the 89th minute for Locklear and Jasmine Hamid, respectively, as the final changes of the match but Fort Lauderdale ultimately fell 3-0 to its in-state rival on the road.

Back in Action

Fort Lauderdale United returns to action on Saturday, March 14, hosting Sporting JAX for the first meeting between the two clubs in South Florida. The sides met twice during the Fall portion of the season – both in Jacksonville – with Sporting JAX claiming the first matchup (Nov. 22) before the teams played to a 1-1 draw (Dec. 13).

(February 20, 2026) – Fort Lauderdale United FC (4-6-7, 19 PTS) hits the road for the first time in the Spring portion of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season, traveling to face Tampa Bay Sun FC (1-6-9, 12 PTS) on Saturday evening in another Florida Derby duel. The sides met twice during the Fall portion of the season, playing to a scoreless draw in Tampa (Oct. 4) before the clubs tied 1-1 in a thrilling affair at Beyond Bancard Field (Nov. 15). With kick-off set for 7:30 p.m. at Suncoast Credit Union Field in Tampa,  Fort Lauderdale will aim to secure its first victory over its in-state rival.

Fort Lauderdale enters Saturday’s duel with renewed momentum after snapping a three-match losing streak with a draw at Beyond Bancard Field last weekend. In the second match of Interim Head Coach Paul Jennison’s tenure, the club will look to build a points streak and carry forward its positive run of play. The high-powered attack ranks third in the league with 23 goals and is led by Kiara Locklear (5G), Jasmine Hamid (4G, 1A) and Kelli Van Treeck (4G, 2A), while defender Ella Simpson (4G) leads all Super League defenders in goals and remains a consistent aerial threat. The dominant quartet accounts for 77.2% of the club’s goals this season, scoring 17 of 22 open-play goals. Fort Lauderdale is coming off a match in which it recorded a team-record three assists, with Abi Hugh and Sophie Harding playing key roles in the buildup. In goal, McKinley Crone looks to record her first shutout for the club in her first road appearance, playing just over 90 miles from her hometown of Maitland. With three points in its sights, Fort Lauderdale faces a Tampa side that has endured a challenging campaign.

Tampa Bay makes its way into Saturday night at the bottom of the Super League standings, winning just one of its 16 matches while earning 12 points this season. Despite coming into the season as the defending champions from the inaugural season, Tampa has struggled mightily in its second campaign. The club underwent significant roster changes during the break but added three players on loan from the NWSL ahead of the spring portion, helping spark an unbeaten start to 2026 (0W-2D). Tampa remains anchored by All-League standouts Sydny Nasello and Vivianne Bessette, while newcomer Jordan Fusco has made an immediate impact with two goals in her first three appearances. With Fort Lauderdale seeking its first road victory over its in-state rival, both sides will enter another edition of the Florida Derby with plenty at stake.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 20, 2026) – Fort Lauderdale United FC is excited to announce that it has added to its thriving academy, signing forward Alana Yasuda to an Academy contract with 11 matches remaining in the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season, pending league and federation approval. At 16 years and 152 days old, Yasuda becomes the third-youngest player in the Gainbridge Super League.

“Alana represents exactly what our Academy is designed to do,” said Aly Hassan, General Manager of Fort Lauderdale United FC. “She’s a talented local player with tremendous upside, and this opportunity allows her to train and compete in a professional environment while continuing her development. We’re proud to provide young athletes in South Florida with a clear pathway to the highest level of the game.”

A dynamic winger, Yasuda brings impressive flair and creativity to the Fort Lauderdale United academy through her strong dribbling ability. The 16-year-old forward has made waves locally and internationally, earning a call-up to the Brazil U-15 Youth National Team for a training camp in 2024 as one of two American-born players on the roster. A local product and Broward County native, Yasuda is coming off a nine-goal sophomore season at Coral Glades High School.

Through USL Academy contracts, players across the league can gain valuable experience at the senior team level in a professional environment while maintaining their college eligibility. The initiative is central to Fort Lauderdale United FC’s mission of providing young female athletes with a clear pathway to the professional game. 

Fort Lauderdale United’s flourishing Academy has already seen players such as Taylor Smith and Daniela Todd begin their careers in South Florida on Academy contracts before earning their way to signing professional deals with the club.

Yasuda joins Dakota Harrell, Jules Cagle, Alexa Strickler, Blane McElroy, Sadie Zelnick, and Maya Buerger as members of the Fort Lauderdale United FC Academy.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 19, 2026) – Fort Lauderdale United FC announced today that midfielder Stella Nyamekye’s loan spell has been mutually terminated by the club and Gotham FC. Nyamekye, who appeared in 14 matches during the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League campaign, departs the club after helping Fort Lauderdale earn 19 points just over halfway through the season. 

Nyamekye joined Fort Lauderdale on loan after the first match of the 2025/26 season and made her debut as a substitute in the club’s second match of the season, a 2-2 draw vs. Carolina Ascent FC on August 30. The Ghana international made an instant impact within the squad, going on to start 12 of her 14 appearances in South Florida while logging 987 minutes on the pitch. Nyamekye was a driving force in both the midfield and attack, leading the team in key passes (21; also T-8th in league) and tied for the team-lead in assists (2) while being one of just four players on the team to have scored a goal and recorded an assist. Additionally, Nyamekye’s 78.6% passing accuracy ranked fourth on the team and her 59 duels won ranked tied for sixth, highlighting her well-rounded impact during her time in Fort Lauderdale.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 17, 2026) – Fort Lauderdale United FC is proud to announce that midfielder Kat González has been called up to the Dominican Republic National Team for a pair of CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying matches against Belize and Anguilla. A dynamic presence in the midfield, González joined Fort Lauderdale ahead of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season after spending the league’s inaugural campaign with Carolina Ascent FC and has since fit seamlessly into the club’s attack.

González has been a key contributor for Fort Lauderdale United this season, appearing in 16 of 17 matches while making six starts. The dynamic midfielder has recorded one assist, 10 key passes and 19 duels won while completing 73.6% of her passes across 663 minutes on the pitch. Her creativity has been central to Fort Lauderdale’s third-ranked attack and will continue to be a valuable asset as the club pushes toward the playoffs in the latter stages of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season.

The midfielder has consistently been a mainstay with the Dominican Republic National Team, dating all the way back to 2021. The Marshall product played a pivotal role in the nation’s qualification for the inaugural W Gold Cup, scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory over Guyana during the 2024 Prelims. González featured in three matches for the Dominican Republic in 2025, first appearing in a pair of friendlies against Honduras before playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw against Suriname on December 2, helping the side earn a valuable point in CONCACAF Women’s Championship Qualifying.

González and the Dominican Republic will face Belize on Saturday, February 28 at 6 p.m. at Estadio Cibao FC in the Dominican Republic before traveling to take on Anguilla on March 6 at 2 p.m. at the Raymond E. Guishard Technical Centre in Anguilla.

Defender Abi Hugh scored and assisted in her first goal contributions of her professional career while Ella Simpson and Jasmine Hamid each scored their fourth goal of the campaign in the draw. With the result, Fort Lauderdale earned points for the first time in four matches in Jennison’s debut at the helm, and the club will look to build on that momentum in next weekend’s Florida Derby clash against Tampa Bay Sun FC on the road.

Fort Lauderdale United returns to the pitch on Saturday, February 21 for its first road match of the Spring portion of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season, traveling to face Tampa Bay Sun FC in another Florida Derby clash. The clubs met twice during the Fall campaign, playing to a scoreless draw in Tampa (Oct. 4) before Madison McComasky helped secure a 1-1 draw at home (Nov. 15). With the playoff push intensifying, Fort Lauderdale will look to earn its first victory over its in-state rival next Saturday.

The match was physical and intense from the opening whistle, with both sides setting the tone early. In Jennison’s first match at the helm, Fort Lauderdale emphasized playing through balls into space to unlock its dynamic attacking threats against Brooklyn’s defense. Laveni Vaka stood out defensively in the opening minutes, making strong tackles in the 7th and 9th minutes to keep the scoreless scoreline. Sophie Harding was central to the attacking approach in her first start of the season, threading a clever through ball in the 24th minute to spark a dangerous move. Fort Lauderdale broke through in the 30th minute when Harding delivered a perfectly weighted pass into Brooklyn’s half to Hugh, who drove a rocketing shot into the far corner to give the club a 1-0 lead. Brooklyn responded in the 41st minute, sending the teams into halftime level at 1-1.

Just seconds into the second half, Brooklyn took the lead, setting Fort Lauderdale with a deficit with 44 minutes to go. Fort Lauderdale pushed for an immediate response, earning three consecutive corner kicks in the 51st, 52nd and 53rd minutes. The equalizer came in the 64th minute, when Hamid finished clinically after a brilliant setup from Hugh to make it 2-2. Brooklyn was reduced to 10 players in the 77th minute after a red card, but despite the advantage, Fort Lauderdale conceded again in the 82nd minute. Jennison turned to the bench for the first subs of his tenure, introducing Daniela Todd and Kat González for Harding and Taylor Smith as the club searched for another equalizer in the late stages of the fixture. Vaka nearly leveled the match in the 85th minute with a long-range effort before playing a decisive role in stoppage time. In the 90th minute, she delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, where Simpson rose above the defense and powered home a header to tie the match at 3-3. Both sides pressed for a winner during 10 minutes of stoppage time, but neither could find the breakthrough, as Fort Lauderdale and Brooklyn played to a thrilling 3-3 draw on Saturday evening.

The sides met twice during the first half of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season, with Fort Lauderdale earning a 2-1 road victory (Sept. 28) before the clubs played to a 1-1 draw in South Florida (Nov. 1). With kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. at Beyond Bancard Field, Fort Lauderdale will look to secure all three points at home to mark the start of a new era.

Fort Lauderdale United FC enters Saturday’s clash riding a three-match skid but will look to turn the page as interim Head Coach Paul Jennison begins his tenure. The club closes its three-match homestand to open the spring season against a Brooklyn side it defeated earlier this year, earning a 2-1 victory in the Empire State on September 28. The squad is led by Team of the Month forward Rebecca Cooke (5G) and All-League midfielder Sam Kroeger (2A), and features five players with at least two goals this season. As Fort Lauderdale looks to usher in a new chapter, Brooklyn will be tasked with slowing down one of the league’s most dynamic attacks.

(February 11, 2026) – Fort Lauderdale United FC announced today that it has named Paul Jennison the Interim Head Coach of its Gainbridge Super League side, effective immediately. Jennison, who opened the season as the club’s Goalkeeper Coach & Head Assistant, will assume head coaching duties for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.

“Paul has earned this opportunity through his work ethic, leadership, and commitment to our players,” said Tyrone Mears, President of Soccer. “He has been an important part of our technical staff this season and understands the standards and culture we are building at Fort Lauderdale United. We believe in continuity, we believe in our pathway, and we have full confidence in Paul as we enter a critical stretch of the season.”

Jennison joined Fort Lauderdale United FC in July and has played an integral role within the technical staff throughout the 2025/26 campaign. Following the midseason departure of Ali Rogers, he steps into the interim head coaching role with the club sitting just two points outside of a Gainbridge Super League playoff spot with 12 matches remaining in the 2025/26 season.

A native of Middlesborough, England, Jennison brings more than 17 years of coaching experience across the collegiate, academy, and international levels. Prior to joining Fort Lauderdale United, he served as Assistant Coach and Goalkeeper coach for the University of South Carolina men’s soccer program after four seasons as Head of Goalkeeping at IMG Academy, where he oversaw all aspects of the goalkeeping department.

Before his time at IMG, Jennison spent three seasons as an Assistant Coach with Northwestern University’s women’s soccer program. He began his coaching career in 2008 at St. Charles East High School, leading both the girls and boys soccer programs over a nine-year tenure.

Jennison’s experience also includes serving as Goalkeeper Coach for the British Virgin Islands Men’s National Team in 2023, coaching at the USL League Two level, and working within the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Since 2018, he has served as a Coach Educator for the U.S. Soccer Federation.

“I’m excited for this tremendous opportunity,” said Jennison. “This is a special place, and we certainly have a very bright future. The important thing is to build on our already well- established foundation and bring in the collective together so we can move the team forward. We’re very excited about the players we have on the roster and how we can continuously bring the best out of them. We appreciate the support from our community and are looking forward to continuing to give them a team they can rally behind.”

With extensive experience across all levels of the game, Jennison now takes the helm as Fort Lauderdale United FC enters a critical stretch of the 2025/26 season.
