FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (June 24, 2026) – Fort Lauderdale United FC’s USL League Two Men’s squad earned an emphatic victory on Saturday evening, taking down Weston FC, 3-1, in the Battle for Broward. Malher Santi Possu, Leonardo D’Ambrosio and Cole Frame each poured in a goal in Fort Lauderdale’s second consecutive win over Weston at Beyond Bancard Field. With the victory, Fort Lauderdale has won four straight matches and will turn its focus to next Wednesday’s road clash with FC Miami City.
Fort Lauderdale jumped out to an early lead after Santi Possu found Joackim Betina on the right side. The second-year defender sent a high-arcing, right-footed cross into the box for Rafa Coronado, who fired a header that was saved by the keeper. Santi Possu was in the right place at the right time, firing the ball into the back of the net in the 9th minute. Weston levelled the match in the 32nd minute in just the third goal that Fort Lauderdale has given up this season. The clubs went back and forth for the remainder of the half, but Fort Lauderdale and Weston went into the break knotted up at 1-1.
The lead was restored just after the beginning of the second half, when Matthew Gordon sent a cross into the box from the left side. The ball was headed out by Weston, but fell at the foot of D’Ambrosio, who sent a one-touch, left-footed rocket into the top right corner to revive the lead in the 50th minute. The game was silenced in stoppage time after Ronaldo Belgrove used his skill to flick a perfect through-ball down the left side. Frame got on the ball, took a couple of touches and found the goal for the first time this season, securing a 3-1 win for Fort Lauderdale against its local rival at Beyond Bancard Field.
