
SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. — Fort Lauderdale United FC’s USL Academy League team beat St. Petersburg on the road in dominant fashion, winning 6-2. The club had six different goalscorers in its third straight victory, as it improves to a 5-0-1 record, sitting in 2nd place of the Florida division with four games left before playoffs.
St. Petersburg struck first, getting a goal in the 12th minute. Down 1-0, Fort Lauderdale responsed almost immediately, with defender Logan Hall scoring in the 14th minute to equalize the game at 1-1. Courtesy of a goal from midfielder Angelo Rodriguez, Fort Lauderdale took the lead in the 22nd minute. The scoreline stretched to 3-1 in the 32nd minute after a goal by midfielder Rafael de Almeida. Fort Lauderdale maintained the two-goal advantage heading into halftime.
Fort Lauderdale came out strong to start the second half and got its fourth goal of the game from midfielder Agustin Malec in the 49th minute, his third of the season. Substitute midfielder Saul Silva extended the lead to 5-1 in the 67th minute, quickly followed by midfielder Liam Barzola who scored Fort Lauderdale’s sixth and final goal of the game in the 68th minute. St. Petersburg scored their second goal in the 78th minute, but it was not enough, as Fort Lauderdale won comfortably 6-2.
Our Fort Lauderdale United FC USL Academy League squad will return to the pitch on Friday, July 11 for a home game against Nona FC at AutoNation Field at FTL UTD Training Facility. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
