
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale United FC’s USL Academy League team got its second win of the season over St. Petersburg FC in an exciting 3-2 match. The club had three different goalscorers, with the game-winner coming in the final ten minutes. FTL UTD is 2-0 on the season, with a pair of matches to look forward to next week.
Fort Lauderdale opened the scoring in the 16th minute, with forward Carl Laurent hitting a rocket into the net after finding himself 1v1 with the goalkeeper. The match remained 1-0 going into halftime, with Fort Lauderdale maintaining their advantage.
The second half started strong for Fort Lauderdale, extending its lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute. Forward Lucas Costa dribbled downfield, cut inside towards goal and beat two defenders to hit a shot that was deflected by a defender on the back post, where substitute forward Sebastian Fernandez was waiting to hit an easy finish. St. Petersburg got two quick goals in the 75th and 77th minutes to equalize the score at 2-2. Fort Lauderdale would get its game winner shortly after, in the 80th minute, off an Adan Leon volley at the top of the box following a deflection and bounce off a FTL UTD corner kick.
Our Fort Lauderdale United FC USL Academy League team will return to the pitch on Thursday, June 12 for an away game against Miami AC at Dowdy Field in Hollywood, Fla.
