FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale United FC’s USL League Two Men’s team won its matchup with FC Miami City on Wednesday evening, 2-0, in another electric home match at Beyond Bancard Field. Defender Ivan Arenas netted his first goal and assist of the young season, while midfielder Carlos Zambrano continued his red-hot form with his fourth goal in as many matches, powering Fort Lauderdale United FC to a statement victory over a regional opponent. With the win, Fort Lauderdale United has now won all four matches in the club’s history, remaining unscored upon through 360 minutes of play while outscoring opponents 9-0. Eyeing a fifth straight win, the club will look to carry its momentum into Saturday night’s matchup against St. Petersburg FC at Beyond Bancard Field.
The first half was intense, with both sides setting the tone through early physicality. Forward Johan Arevalo and defender Tibo Gobet came close to giving Fort Lauderdale United the lead within the opening 30 minutes, but their efforts narrowly missed the target. Despite several promising chances for FTL UTD, the teams entered the halftime break locked in a scoreless draw.
Just moments after the halftime break, Michael Appiah sparked the attack with a brilliant run down the left wing, breaking behind the Miami City defense. Coming from his left back position, Arenas made a well-timed underlapping run into the box, and Appiah played a sharp through ball into space. The electric Arenas took a touch and calmly slotted a left-footed shot into the back of the net, giving Fort Lauderdale United the lead in the 46th minute.
The advantage doubled in the 70th minute, once again sparked by Arenas. The in-form defender surged down the left flank, blowing past a Miami City defender to reach the touchline before delivering a pinpoint pass to the top of the box. Zambrano came charging in and fired a precise, low left-footed shot to the far post, beating the keeper to net Fort Lauderdale United’s second goal of the match. With a comfortable advantage, the FTL UTD defense stayed composed and disciplined over the final 20 minutes, securing a 2-0 victory over FC Miami City, the club’s fourth consecutive shutout win with a 2-0 final.
