FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (October 6, 2026) — Fort Lauderdale United FC announced today that Tyrone Mears will no longer serve as head coach of the club’s women’s professional team, effective immediately.
Paul Jennison will assume head coaching responsibilities on an interim basis.
“We want to thank Tyrone for his passion, dedication and commitment to Fort Lauderdale United FC,” said Aly Hassan, General Manager of Fort Lauderdale United FC. “He has invested a great deal in our players and our organization, and we appreciate his contributions to the club. We wish Tyrone nothing but the best moving forward. Paul Jennison will step in as interim head coach as we continue to focus on the remainder of the season.”
Mears originally joined Fort Lauderdale United FC ahead of the club’s inaugural season and helped guide the team to the Gainbridge Super League Final in 2025.
Fort Lauderdale United FC Founder and Chairman Tommy Smith thanked Mears for his time with the organization while reinforcing the club’s expectations moving forward.
“We appreciate everything Tyrone has given to Fort Lauderdale United FC and wish him success in his next chapter,” Smith said. “As an organization, we are committed to building a club that consistently competes and develops talent at the highest level. That commitment to excellence drives every decision we make, and our focus remains on putting our players, staff and supporters in the best position to succeed.”
The club will continue evaluating its coaching structure and begin the process of identifying its next permanent head coach.
Fort Lauderdale United FC will provide additional updates regarding the coaching staff when appropriate.
