WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 22, 2026) – Fort Lauderdale United FC (1-5-0, 3 PTS) dropped its Tuesday morning matchup with DC Power FC (3-2-2, 11 PTS) to open its two-match road trip. Fort Lauderdale trailed in the early stages of the second half but fought back as Abi Hugh scored her first goal of the 2026 Gainbridge Super League campaign, with Kelsey Oyler supplying the assist on a corner kick. The connection brought Fort Lauderdale level in the second half as the club searched for points in a hard-fought road matchup.

A Cold, Rainy Morning in the Capital
On a 60-degree morning with consistent rain, Fort Lauderdale opened the match with intensity on both ends of the pitch. Pressure was the name of the first half, with Fort Lauderdale turning defense into offense on a number of occasions. In the 10th minute, Fort Lauderdale put together an incredible team attack, with Nicole Vernis setting up Kiara Locklear, whose shot hit the far post. Sh’nia Gordon continued her strong run of form, serving as a driving force on a number of attacks throughout the first 45 minutes. Fort Lauderdale continued to attack through the remainder of the first half, with Van Treeck, Hugh and Gordon each taking shots but just missing the mark as the clubs went into the halftime break scoreless.
A Seesaw Second Half
After a slow start to the second half, Fort Lauderdale fell behind in the 62nd minute but continued to fight immediately after conceding. In the 66th minute, Daniela Todd made an incredible run and nearly equalized with a sliding shot, but the effort was saved and bounced out of bounds for a corner kick. Oyler stepped up and fired a low pass to the top of the box for Hugh, who sent a one-touch shot toward the far post that deflected off the post and into the back of the net, bringing Fort Lauderdale level with 23 minutes remaining. Tyrone Mears made a pair of changes in hopes of grabbing all three points, bringing Grace Cutler and Taylor Smith onto the pitch. The club fought throughout seven minutes of stoppage time, highlighted by a 97th-minute chance from Hugh that just missed to the right of the net as Fort Lauderdale fell to DC Power on the road, 1-2. With the result, Fort Lauderdale has dropped four consecutive matches but will have a chance to return to the win column after a week of rest when it takes on Brooklyn FC on the road.
