FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Aug 13, 2026) — Fort Lauderdale United FC today announced the appointment of Andrew F. Johnston as Chief Communications Officer, strengthening the club’s commitment to excellence, community connection and strategic storytelling as the organization continues to grow.
Andrew will lead communications, public relations, media relations and brand storytelling across the club, with an immediate focus on growing awareness for South Florida’s only professional Women’s Soccer Club, upcoming USL League One Men’s team and the clubs growing Youth Academy.
“As Fort Lauderdale United continues to grow, it’s critical that we tell our story in a way that reflects both our commitment to excellence and our unbreakable connection to the South Florida community,” said Tommy Smith, Founder and Chairman of Fort Lauderdale United FC. “Andrew brings extensive communications and brand experience, a deep understanding of this market and the ability to elevate the stories across every level of our organization.”
Andrew brings more than 20 years of experience in sports, news, marketing and brand strategy. Most recently, he served as Director of Brand Strategy at Paramount, leading brand positioning, marketing and community engagement initiatives for CBS Miami. His career also included leadership roles with ABC News, NBC Sports, along with experience in major media markets including Miami, New York, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and San Diego.
“We have tremendous stories to tell across every level of Fort Lauderdale United,” Smith added. “From young players developing through our Academy, to our Women’s Club, to the excitement surrounding the debut of our Men’s team, this role will help us create deeper awareness and stronger connections with supporters throughout South Florida.”
Andrew will work across soccer operations, marketing, partnerships and community relations to expand earned media, player storytelling, community engagement and overall visibility for the club.
“I’m committed to making Fort Lauderdale United FC one of the most accessible and community-connected sports organizations in South Florida,” Johnston said. “We want to hear from youth clubs, schools, nonprofits, businesses, civic organizations and community leaders doing meaningful work across our region.
