FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – As the inaugural USL Super League regular season draws to a close, the league’s first set of end-of-season honors is beginning to take shape. As that approaches, Fort Lauderdale United FC midfielder Addie McCain has positioned herself well to be considered for one of the most closely watched awards: Player of the Year. The club’s captain and midfield anchor, McCain has been one of the most consistent, impactful and well-rounded players in the league’s inaugural season.
The Texas A&M alum has appeared in all 27 matches up to this point, and has been a central figure in Fort Lauderdale United’s success, contributing on both ends of the field in a campaign defined by durability, leadership and top-tier performances. As the club’s captain, McCain has set the tone for her squad both on and off the pitch. She is the only player in the league to be named to the Team of the Month on four occasions – highlighting her consistent, high-level form across all phases of the season. Offensively, McCain is one of just three players to register a hat trick during the 27-match campaign, underlining her ability to take over a game when it matters most (9/22 vs. Lexington).
Heading into the final match of the season, McCain ranks top-three in the league in several key attacking categories:
- 3rd in goals (10)
- 3rd in combined goals and assists (12)
- 3rd in chances created (38)
One of the most well-rounded and dynamic players in the league, McCain’s contributions extend well beyond the attacking third. The dominant McCain is among the league leaders in critical defensive metrics, ranking:
- 2nd in tackles won (58)
- 2nd in duels won (181)
- 2nd in aerial duels won (62)
- 7th in interceptions (34) — one of just three midfielders in the top seven
McCain’s ability to influence the game on both ends of the pitch, coupled with her leadership as captain, has made her a standout performer – not just for Fort Lauderdale United, but across the Super League. Few players, especially in the midfield role, manage to influence both ends of the field as consistently as McCain has this season. As the Super League prepares to announce its inaugural season honors, McCain’s well-rounded production and consistent presence should position her as a strong contender – if not the frontrunner – for Player of the Year recognition.
