FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The USL Super League named a pair of Fort Lauderdale United FC players to the February Team of the Month on Tuesday afternoon, with midfielder Addie McCain and defender Laurel Ansbrow making the cut. McCain and Ansbrow were instrumental pieces to a Fort Lauderdale squad that finished the month of February unbeaten.
McCain is making her third appearance on the Team of the Month after being recognized in September and December. The league’s leading scorer was dangerous, recording a goal and an assist in a pair of February matches. McCain scored her 9th goal of the season after beating a pair of Lexington SC defenders before slotting the ball in the back of the net. The FTL attack continued to run through the Texas A&M product, and she played an insightful through-ball pass to Gordon, who beat the Tampa Bay Sun FC keeper to give McCain her second assist of the season.
Ansbrow was acquired during the winter hiatus, and immediately slotted into the starting back-line for FTL UTD. The Wake Forest product played all 180 minutes in both matches, and recorded 4 duels won, 8 clearances and completed 120 passes. Ansbrow’s ability to play the ball forward has helped an already dominant Fort Lauderdale attack, as the defender assisted Jasmine Hamid with a perfect long ball into Tampa territory.
The duo was instrumental in helping Fort Lauderdale secure four points in February and extend its unbeaten streak to five games. McCain will look to continue being the engine for the FTL UTD squad, and Ansbrow will be relied upon heavily in the back-line as the club continues its playoff push.
