CEO Deon Graham and Head Coach Tyrone Mears sat down in an interview with Inside South Florida to discuss the inauguration of Fort Lauderdale United FC and what this means for our local community.
Being the only professional women’s soccer team in South Florida, Graham and Mears expressed the impact Fort Lauderdale United FC will have on the sport for generations to come. “Grow the game. Grow the women’s game, that’s the number one thing,” Mears highlighted his purpose as head coach.
Central to their vision is building the community, Fort Lauderdale United FC promises to enhance our community by enhancing women’s professional soccer and supporting important local causes.
In terms of what this means for the 954, Graham said, “It means a lot. Fort Lauderdale has been looking for something to get behind…,” professing his devotion and enthusiasm for this groundbreaking team. “I think that the product we are going to have on the field and off the field is going to rally the community to stand behind us and unite.”
Fort Lauderdale United FC has started signing players from all across the world to cultivate a diverse experience, while also nurturing the local talent we have in the 954. This roster is set to compete in this high-level division one USL Super League season, that kicks off this August.
