Fort Lauderdale United FC unveiled the signing of midfielder Anele Komani to its roster for the 2024/25 inaugural USL Super League season this August.
From London, England, Komani began her collegiate career at the University of West Alabama. In her debut season on American soil, Komani amassed 15 points with six goals and three assists as a freshman. She became the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Year and received multiple awards, including First Team All-GSC, Second Team D2CCA All-Region and United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second Team.
Komani’s ability to seamlessly connect passes, read the field and create opportunities at the net placed her second on her team in shots (55), points (21) and goals in her sophomore year. She took a total of 20 shots on goal, posting a 0.364 SOG percentage. Komani is prone to rising to the challenge in game-deciding moments, causing her to tie for the most game-winning goals (3). Logging 1,616 minutes, she was one of three players to exceed 1,600 minutes of play, making her a crucial piece on the field. Her efforts in 2018 awarded her to D2CCA First-Team South All-Region, United Soccer Coaches South All-Region Second Team, First Team All-Conference and was named to the GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
As a junior, Komani played in all 18 matches, starting in all but one and played 1,487 minutes. Komani’s offensive prowess makes her a magnet for the ball, establishing her as a top goal-scorer and opportunity-creator on her team. She finished second on her team in goals (7), points (19), game winner (2), shots (53) and tied for second in assists (5). Komani also increased her SOG percentage from her sophomore year by 0.145 to 0.509. One of her exceptional performances in 2019 was scoring a season-high six points with a goal and four assists in a 6-0 win over Shorter. Komani was also awarded to the UWA Women’s Soccer Team of the Decade and GSC Women’s Soccer Team of the Decade as an honorable mention, as well as making the First Team-All Conference and D2CCA Second Team All-Region.
Despite her senior season being cut short, Komani played and started in six games, scoring four goals combined with three assists for 11 points. Komani concluded her career for the Tigers, posting 25 shots with 16 of them on goal, achieving a .640 SOG percentage.
Honing in on her craft, Komani transitioned to the professional stage with Kdz Ereglispor in Turkey, Hapoel Petah Tikva in Israel, Clube De Albergaria in Portugal and Chelsea in England.
