On Saturday, June 15, Fort Lauderdale United FC hosted its first-ever combine, searching for prospective players for its inaugural roster and providing an opportunity for female athletes to showcase their talents.
Taking place at Nova Southeastern University, the event saw 125 players, some as young as 16, signing up to participate in this combine. These athletes came from diverse backgrounds, ranging from collegiate-level experience to professional stretches in Europe, Africa and South America. Nevertheless, each player seized the opportunity to demonstrate their talents, hoping to be selected for a historic team set to pave the path for women’s professional soccer.
The enthusiasm these players exhibited for this new team shows a snippet of just how impactful the inaugural season of the USL Super League will have on the future of women’s soccer and the trajectory of these players’ careers.
Fort Lauderdale United FC is grateful for the passion and love for this sport that these players bring to the field and spread in their careers. We can’t wait to continue to build up this sport for these powerful players.
